Vaucluse House

Vaucluse House is located in the suburb of (you guessed it) Vaucluse.

It's one of the few grand 19th Century houses in Sydney which remain largely as they were, thanks to some good luck and the work of the Historic Houses Trust.

It's also a museum which is open to the public. The house itself is interesting as you can see how it used to operate and the the guides are knowledgeable and more than happy to answer a barrage of questions.

Wikipedia has more information on the history of the house.

The gardens have also been restored to the 19th Century style and are a pleasure to wander around on a sunny afternoon.

They also have a fine Tea Rooms with a nice High Tea if you happen to be there in the afternoon. It's a great way to end your wanderings around the house and grounds.

Why do it?: Interesting tour, pretty grounds, and a great way to work up and appetite for Scones, Cream, and Strawberry Jam.
