Magical light show parade
3D Lanterns will parade through Chinatown Mall

In Traditional Chinese culture, The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, when the moon is at its fullest, which usually falls in Mid- September or early October. In the southern hemisphere, this important festival falls in our Spring and is celebrated using it's other name, the Moon Lantern Festival.

Traditional Chinese Moon Lanterns

Chinatown Mall, Fortitude Valley is the ideal venue to celebrate the Moon Lantern Festival, with many events planned over the whole weekend (Saturday 22nd September - 6-9pm and Sunday 23rd September- 12- 5pm) - see the website for full details. Brisbane City Council is hosting a street parade with full size 3D moon lanterns, a light show and dance performance.

Maybe eat some delicious Yum Cha

The two day program also includes a Chinese Lion Dance, and spectacular Dragon Parade with drums and firecrackers. Brisbane's Asian Communities will also present traditional music, song, dance and martial arts. The Valley Moon Lantern Festival is a great excuse to go and enjoy a little slice of China and especially taste some excellent Asian food.
