Mt Gambier may be famous for the Blue Lake, but if you're looking for something fun for the whole family, then the Valley Lake is the place to go. With a large playground, plenty of picnic spots, and a boat ramp for fun on the water, there isn't much that you can't do at the Lake.

The playground is obviously the highlight of the area, and that is what makes the Valley Lake such a great place to go with kids. The fenced in spot doesn't contain just one playground, but many, all in one large play area. The playgrounds are mostly themed, which means kids can decide whether they want to run a farm, captain a pirate ship, or rule a nation. They are designed to facilitate fun and imaginative play.

The playground also features a fitness area, where you can climb, do chin ups, and do step ups. One of the best bits about the playground is that it not only features a liberty wheelchair swing, but some of equipment is all access, making it fun for everyone to play on. Unfortunately it is surrounded by bark, not rubber, which could make it a less easy to navigate.

The recreation area makes a great place to have a birthday party. There are plenty of undercover barbecue and picnic areas, and these are spread around the lake. This means that you can easily claim an area for your party, and not have to worry about disturbing, or being disturbed by, other people. The playground means kids will have plenty to do, and there is easy enough room to have your own party games. You'll also find public toilets, and rainwater safe for drinking.

There is also plenty of space for ball games around the lake, anything from soccer to cricket, there is even a cricket net set up. There is a large grassy space outside of the playground area, which means kids will have lots of space to run around.

The grass also makes a good spot to picnic. If you would rather bring along a blanket that take advantage of one of the picnic tables, then you can find a nice spot by the lake. You might find yourself surrounded by ducks and other birds, but keep in mind that feeding them can be really bad for their health. The Valley Lake might not be the most relaxing place to picnic, as it can get quite busy, so you might prefer heading to the nearby Browne's Lake.

The lakes are closed off at 8pm, so don't plan any late night stops, but during the day Valley Lake can be a great place to pass the time. If you're looking for somewhere fun with the family, that doesn't involve any fuss, then this is a great place to go.
