A stellar line up of musical talent on three outdoor stages
Brisbane's biggest street party is back with a revamped format in 2014, as the free outdoor music festival brings fashion, food and markets into the mix, with stellar live performances on three outdoor stages.
Headlining the all ages music festival in 2014 are The Preatures, who rose to prominence with their hit single 'This Is How You Feel' which reached no. 9 on Triple J's Hottest 100 list in 2013. Since then they've gone on to tour internationally including the largest music festival in the world, Texas's South By Southwest.
The Preatures are just one of many impressive home-grown talents appearing on the streets of Fortitude Valley to expected huge crowds. Hip hop outfit, All Day and Remi, both based out of Melbourne, are also expected to showcase their unique and fresh take on smooth hip hop.
The Valley Fiesta has also been consistently an opportunity to see some of Australia's best up and coming musical talent perform. Make no mistake, a wide range of different genres of music are covered over the two day event, and if you are a music lover with an open mind and enjoy up close and personal live performances, the Valley Fiesta is an event which is simply too good to miss. The Main Stage is located towards the New Farm end of Brunswick Street where the street will be closed off near the Empire Hotel, the Chinatown Mall will also hold a performance stage, and the recently redeveloped Brunswick Street Mall.
As well as enjoying the festival atmosphere, many licensed venues will also be having their own performers throughout the 2 day weekend, and the drinks are sure to be flowing as the party steps into full pace on Saturday night.
Alcohol is not permitted outdoors and police will be there to control crowds, however this still is an event for the whole family - especially during the daytime where there are many other cultural activities to entertain and amuse.
For an authentic Asian banquet, the Chinatown Chow Down will ensure a variety of tastes from the East are accommodated with fare provided from the best of the surrounding China Town restaurants. There will also be live performances to watch as you chow down, including Kung Fu displays, walking Geisha Girls, and an outdoor Karaoke bar to witness the vocals of Brisbane locals into the evening.
With four different 2 hour banquet sittings from 12pm on Saturday, make sure you book a ticket early via The Valley Fiesta Website Tickets are $30.00
On Saturday morning, the traditional Fortitude Valley Markets will be held with a difference as the Red Bull Crate Diggers and Music Market will sell pre loved records, CD's and other music memorabilia. This is definitely a must for music collectors, and especially for those who appreciate the tangibility of physical releases.
However for the Brisbane hipster crowd, who congregate in the Valley, the pop-up swap shoppe, is sure to be the best place to exchange some pre-loved vintage threads with other fellow fashion enthusiasts all in the name of sustainability.
To exchange clothes, simply bring up to 5 of your pre-loved garments on a clothes hanger, and 'check them' in from 10-12pm on Saturday the 23rd of August. You will then receive tokens allowing you to select one item for each token. Definitely clothes 'shopping' with a difference.
With all the fashion, food, fun and festivities, this free event is no doubt a major coup for Brisbane, and one that's worth a visit each year. With the new events and activities thrown into the mix, as well as some of Australia's best musical talent, the 2014 Valley Fiesta looks one not to be missed.
