Brisbane's largest annual street festival is back and this year, it's bigger and better than ever.
In 2010, the Valley Fiesta partners with Bigsound Summit, an international music conference, to create five huge days of music, information and entertainment.
Bigsound 2010 takes place from 8 September until 10 September, at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts (420 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley) and various live music venues in Fortitude Valley. The event provides conferences and panel discussions with some of the world's most respected industry professionals (like John O'Donnell, manager of Cold Chisel, and Brian Ritchie from The Violent Femmes) and performances by acts from all over the Southern Hemisphere (big name performers include Washington and Children Collide.) Bigsound is highly recommended for musicians as access to professional contacts, international export markets and new technology and ideas. Ticket prices begin at $27 for a one night pass.
Directly following is the increasingly popular Valley Fiesta. A Brisbane favourite since 1997, the Valley Fiesta has been the launching ground for artists like Birdie Blackman, Operator Please and Youth Group; in fact, one of the most exciting things about Valley Fiesta is guessing which unknown act will end up on Triple J's Hottest 100 list. From 10 – 12 September, the Fiesta provides free entertainment for patrons with loads of live music, night markets, street art and breathtaking performances form acts like Pyrophone Juggernaut, a pyrotechnic percussion display.
