I have two good reasons for promoting Jamie's Italian restaurant for your Valentine's Day dinner. The first and most important is that the menu is authentic Italian, delicious and good value. The second and perhaps more unusual one is that I love Jamie Oliver. So what has that got to do with choosing his restaurant for Valentine's day?
Recent reports in the media suggest that his business ventures, including his restaurants, are in financial trouble and that many will, in all likelihood, close. Why should this make any difference to you and me? Well, the reason is what Jamie has done for you and me – not you and me per se, but the whole of the wider community from the start, when he opened his first restaurant in London and trained young people who would otherwise have no outlet or future, to the huge difference he has made in making us aware of what we eat, what children eat at school and what we should be aware of in the food industry.
This is no mean feat for one man, so I am hugely grateful and if you feel the same way, then supporting his restaurants is one way we can help. Yes, this is unusual I know but isn't it a consideration when choosing a venue that the person, ethos and practices behind its formation are wholesome? In addition, the food is good and that ultimately is what you are looking for on this special night out with your loved one. His relationship with his wife Jools is one which most of us can look up to and admire. Perhaps he will have some magic truffle dust to spread the love in the menu on offer!
