Ok so this is a bit left field for a Valentine's Day activity. But not everyone has a date for Valentine's Day, and perhaps they don't particularly want one. So here is an Eco-Art Workshop for Adults: Valentine's Day Jewellery Making. The theme of the night is jewellery-making, using wire, fabrics and paper, with reclaimed materials. I love upcycling.

Jewellery making is a beautiful way to turn salvaged treasures into wearable art. In this beginner's workshop, under the guidance of the experienced facilitator Jenn at Reverse Garbage Queensland, you will learn key techniques for making your own jewellery piece, including:
  • wire skills including linkages, coating, turning and joining
  • sewing skills to incorporate salvaged fabric into your necklace
  • hot gun gluing
  • how to create a cohesive design.

  • The first half hour will be spent on techniques, then participants will be able to use these new skills to create their own salvaged jewellery necklace. The lovely folk at Reverse Garbage will be opening the warehouse especially in the evening for this Valentine's Day workshop. Hot drinks and nibbles will be served to keep you sustained.

This inspirational workshop is suitable for beginners, ages 13 and over but is aimed at adults. Reverse Garbage supplies all tools, materials and an experienced facilitator. The cost is only $35 and you get to take home your own creation. Will you keep it for yourself or give it to a loved one?

    Book your place here .

    Reverse Garbage Queensland (RGQ)
RGQ is a not-for-profit worker run co-operative that promotes environmental sustainability and resource reuse. They collect high-quality industrial discards, diverting them away from landfill and sell them at a low cost to the general public. They run a variety of environment and waste-focused art workshops and educational talks and tours to suit every age and group. They also have a mail order service and host a gallery and gift shop promoting local artists, craft workers and designers who salvage, reuse and up-cycle materials.

Parking Facilities at the RGQ Warehouse
There are seven parking spaces in front of the Reverse Garbage Queensland warehouse and there is also two-hour street parking available around the corner on Elliott St. Please do not park in the car parks of businesses on Burke Street as you may risk getting towed. Shouldn't be a problem in the evening though.
