Event:
Embrace it
Like it or loathe it, it's Valentine's Day and it's time to celebrate love in all its gooey glory. With floral bouquets, scented candles, chocolate goodies, and teddy bears everywhere, the best thing to do is embrace Valentine's Day and your Valentine. The good news is there are actually some pretty cool things happening in Adelaide on Friday, February 14, 2014.

Grab your lover or a lovely group of friends and hit the town because it's the start of the Adelaide Fringe and it all begins with the huge free Fringe Parade along King William Street. The parade starts at 8.30 pm with entertainment from 7 pm onward and it finishes with a fireworks display at 9.30 pm. Find more information at the Adelaide Fringe website and read about the Opening Night Parade here.

After the parade, head to the Garden of Unearthly Delights to catch a show or just hang out and enjoy the atmosphere. The Bank SA free concert series starts on Valentine's Day with a performance at 5.30 pm from the "retro fabulous vintage" DJ Monski Mouse. It's free entry into the Garden at Rundle Park on East Terrace, which is open from 5 pm until 3 am on Friday. Check out the program at the Garden of Unearthly Delights website.

The Cellar Door Wine Festival is on this weekend and to celebrate opening night and Valentine's Day, there are two decadent master classes. The first starts at 6 pm and is hosted by Valerie Henbest, cheese expert from The Smelly Cheese Shop. The second class starts at 7.30 pm and is hosted by Marion Grasby, former MasterChef contestant and creator of Marion's Kitchen. The master classes cost $30 each and are held at The Big Slapple, also known as the Adelaide Convention Centre. Book your tickets at the Cellar Door Wine Festival website.

It's also the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Season Opening Gala. The ASO kicks off its season and honours Valentine's Day with From Russia with Love, a night of romantic Russian music including a performance of Tchaikovksy's Romeo and Juliet. It starts at 8 pm at the Festival Theatre. Ticket prices vary so visit the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra website for all the details.

While many events are just getting started, the Moonlight Cinema is unfortunately winding down for another season. For Valentine's Day, the outdoor cinema in the Botanic Gardens is screening Breakfast at Tiffany's, the 1960s classic and eternally stylish romantic comedy starring Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, and Cat. The screening starts when the sun sets, but it's a good idea to arrive early to cuddle up and claim your spot on the grass. Tickets cost $18 for adults and can be purchased from the Moonlight Cinema website.

Wallis Cinemas also has an outdoor cinema on the lawns of Auchendarroch House at Mount Barker. There's a special Valentine's Day screening of Endless Love, a remake of the 1980s Brooke Shields' film of the same title. Gates open at 8 pm and the screening begins at 9 pm. Tickets cost $18.50 for adults and can be purchased from the Wallis Cinemas website.

If you're looking for a nice place to have dinner, then you better get in quick as many restaurants are booking fast. Mount Lofty House has a romantic evening planned with a four course meal in the Piccadilly Restaurant at 6 pm. The set menu costs $95 per person and there are accommodation packages available if you wish to spend the night. Check out the Mount Lofty House website to plan your evening.

For a romantic weekend getaway, book the Martin Suite at Morella House in Clare. It's absolutely divine and if you require more convincing, here are 10 Reasons to Visit Clare Valley. Read more about the Martin Suite at Morella House here and make your booking (before someone else does) through the Stayz website.

Aquador Retreat in Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills is great for a relaxing weekend away. It provides luxurious accommodation and has an impressive Wellness Centre with spas, showers, and saunas. Read more about Aquador Retreat here and head to the Aquador Retreat website for booking information.

A couple's treatment at your local day spa is a nice way to spend Valentine's Day. The Spa on Brougham in North Adelaide has several different treatments designed especially for couples. Check out the available treatments at the Spa on Brougham website and find out more about the Spa on Brougham here.

Diamond Medi Spa at Christies Beach can also accommodate couples. You can choose any treatment from their menu, but they quite often have specials that offer exceptional value. Find more information and current promotions at the Diamond Medi Spa website and read a little more about Diamond Medi Spa here.

The Port Princess has a Valentine's Day Cruise planned for lunch or dinner. It includes a two hour cruise on the Port River and a two course meal for only $25 per person. The cruise departs at 12 noon or 6.30 pm from the Fishermen's Wharf at Port Adelaide, check out the Port Princess website for all the details.

You've probably read about the Temptation Sailing Dolphin Swim, but did you know that Temptation Sailing also operates a Twilight Cruise? It's a 1.5 hour cruise along the coast south of Adelaide that departs from the Marina Pier at Holdfast Shores and costs $24 per person. There are two cruises operating on Valentine's Day, one at 5.30 pm and another at 7.30 pm. Find out more and make your booking at the Temptation Sailing website.
