So, it's time to welcome another Valentine's Day, the celebration so adored by romantics, florists and stalkers. And to that list can be added WeekendNotes, because we not only love love – we love to love love.

One of the best ways to honour your ardour is over a drink or meal. Depending on your taste and budget, there are all manner of places where you can sicken onlookers with grotesquely extravagant public displays of affection. Snobs, for example, will head to the Bayswater Brasserie, alcoholics will cruise Bondi's Wine Bars, gluttons will head straight for a Max Brenner Chocolate Bar, while cheapskates will opt for the Como Waterfront Café.

However, not all couples like ruining other people's meals – some prefer to spoil their movies instead. If you're the sort who thinks that there's nothing more romantic than a flick, you can take your canoodling to quality venues like the Bondi Openair Cinema, Hornsby Odeon Theatre and Govinda's. Just have the courtesy to sit at the back.

Perhaps, though, you and your beloved would rather be walking hand in hand through the wide open spaces? In that case, there are plenty of gorgeous spots scattered throughout Sydney, such as the Mt Annan Botanic Garden, Garie Beach, Palm Beach, Castle Rock Beach and the Bondi Beach to Coogee Coastal Walk. Alternatively, you could cut straight to the chase and go to Nudist HQ, also known as Lady Bay Beach. That's right – WeekendNotes is on to you.

For something different, let the animal in you loose by signing up for Roar & Snore. Or you could do the courteous thing and leave our fair city altogether, by enjoying an incredibly scenic getaway along either the north coast or south. That way, the rest of us won't have to watch you carry on like a pair of toey teenagers.

Of course, some people believe that the best way to say 'I love you' involves spending next to no money and staying at home. If you're one of these lazy tightwads ... sorry, romantics ... you've got a number of options. Fill your home with red balloons and atmospheric candles. Exchange massages. Exchange love letters. Snuggle up on the couch with a couple of DVDs. Take lovey-dovey snaps with your digital camera. Feed each other chocolates. But please – spare us the details ...
