On the 2nd of March, Melburnians will have the unique opportunity to witness 'Dancescapes', the new production from internationally celebrated dancer, teacher, choreographer, producer and actor,
Vaibhav Arekar.
This one night only event will be held at Union House Theatre (University of Melbourne) and promises to be an exhilarating cross-cultural experience.
Originally staged in Mumbai, this special English language production of 'Dancescapes' is largely inspired by 'Bharatanatyam', a classical form of Indian dance which is characterised by acrobatics, spiritual symbolism and emotional expression.
Practised by both male and female dancers, 'Bharatanatyam' is a beautiful and elegant art form dating back to the 19th century, but with 'Dancecapes,' Arekar attempts to modernise this ancient form of dance by exploring contemporary ideas.
Due to this unique approach, Arekar's productions appeal to audiences of all nationalities (Arekar recently performed in Japan) and this forthcoming production of 'Danscecapes' will mark his very first visit to Australia.
