Home of Brisbane's biggest omelette
What do you look for in a good place for breakfast on the weekend? Is it the food or is it the coffee or is it both? Great coffee is high on my priority list but so is good food and this is another place to add to my list for good weekend breakfasts.
Recently we choose Vagelis Cafe and Bar for our Saturday breakfast completely randomly, as we were driving past. It is located on Racecourse Road in Hamilton. The alfresco dining area at the Vagelis Cafe looked inviting, as it seemed relaxed yet alive with many people enjoying the breakfast scene.
The staff were quite friendly and attentive, taking our coffee orders as soon as we were seated. The coffees arrived hot and to our liking which delighted my husband as he doesn't enjoy cold coffee. I really enjoyed the coffee, later learning that it was a blend of Fonzie Abbott which I hadn't come across before but definitely be seeking it out in the future.
Coffee aside, it was time then to enjoy the food. My husband ordered the salmon omelette ($24), which on the menu was part of their gourmet omelette selection, claiming to be Brisbane's Biggest Omelette and yes indeed it was. Had we known better I would have shared it with him as it easily would feed two or three of us!
Instead I enjoyed a vegetarian version of Eggs Benedict ($20) with spinach, mushrooms, capsicum, eggplant and shallots, while my son opted for a deluxe breakfast ($18) which included bacon, eggs, tomato and chipolata on toast.
The menu is quite extensive, offering many choices and catering to many dietary needs. They offered either a mini, deluxe or mega size to their breakfast of bacon and eggs with toast for varying appetites. The generous meal sizes would do serious harm to someone on a diet, but seemed to satisfy the hungry cyclists and other patrons there that morning who were looking for good food, coffee and a place to chat. This would certainly be a place for a hearty appetite.
The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant with the staff all making sure that we were being looked after and making conversation naturally lending to the relaxed weekend feel.
It was a lovely start to our Saturday morning and the food gave us plenty of energy to go and hit the shops. My ideal place for breakfast includes both great coffee and great food as well as a relaxed atmosphere and Vagelis delivered all three for us on this particular morning. Definitely another one to add to our List of places to eat breakfast.
