I'm a freelance writer living in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. I study creative writing and film and tv.
Most of us don't exercise anywhere near as much as we should, nor do us city folk have the time or facilities to do Yoga, meditation, or any of that other stuff. Well, think again. The lovely people over at Vaalia have decided to run another Feel Good Program (the others having proved successful).
The program comprises a few different things: Mind and Movement, Mummy & Me Yoga, and Aqua Aerobics.
If a water workout is your thing, then chuck on your swimmers and make your way to the pool for some aqua aerobics. Runs every Saturday morning at 9.30 am.
New mums are more than welcome to participate in the program as well. Every Tuesday morning at 9.30 am on the Picnic Island Green there is a Yoga class for mums and there newborns.
If water is not your thing and you haven't just had a baby, then don't fret, there is still the main event to come, the Mind and Movement section of the program. Come on down to the Riverside Green at South Bank, grab a mat, and prepare for an invigorating workout of the mind and body.
Mind and Movement combines elements of Yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi. Each session starts with a brief mind-centring exercise and then an extensive 45 minute Yoga workout, followed by a more lengthy meditation to calm the mind.
Mind and Movement is run every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 5.30 pm, but be sure to get there a little bit early to ensure you get a mat and a good position, because it fills up pretty quickly.
At the end of each session each participant will receive a free Vaalia Yoghurt and if you're lucky a free deflatable water bottle as well!
The Feel Good Program will be running from October 1 until November 24. So come down and take advantage of a great service, and do your body and mind a favour in the process.
