In the pretty little township of Bangalow, there seems to be an disproportionate number of funky shops and restaurants. Utopia is no exception.

On arrival, you instantly notice that someone with an eye for detail and design has picked the fit out, including some great barn door style windows, that open out onto the greenery below, adding to the pleasant ambiance.

Head in for a great cup of coffee or delicious cake from their broad range, and of course, use their free wi-fi for travellers after a fix.

We headed in for lunch to escape the heat, and of course, the kids quickly narrowed down their choice to the generous kids fish & chips and a hearty burger.

[BREAK]

I was very tempted by an exotic sounding chickpea salad but in the end opted for the Buckwheat salt & pepper squid with pickled fennel and preserved lemon aioli. While listed as lighter fare, I disappointingly had no room for the flan I had spied on the way in, so alas, no dessert for me!

I was however, happy I insisted on a quick espresso before we left.

Utopia uses fresh, local produce and has a range of vegetarian and gluten free options. They open at 8 am for breakfast and serve dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.

While situated in a historic township, step inside to a contemporary Utopia!
