Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store, I am now a raving fan of yours. Even if you don't know your Prada from your Calvin Klein, you're in truly amazing hands. Then again, even if you do you will still be in fashion heaven. Having shopped here recently, I am still blown away with my entire experience. If I could give this store a 20 out of 10, I seriously would. So well deserved on all fronts. Hang in there, as I need to explain to you, dear wonderful reader why I respect and admire this one-stop shop of luxury designer goods, new and vintage, so highly.
Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store also stock a few Burberry designer items
Di founded Ussed & Abbussed in fabulous Cremorne eight years ago, all manifested from her passion as a hobby with a crystal clear vision in mind: sourcing cheap but quality clothes from overseas, and then bringing them home to Sydney. Ussed & Abbussed quickly expanded to include all display areas beyond the two black steps once you pass the beautiful vintage lounges (as per the first image). This is testament to Di's hard work, passion and genuine care for others.
Furthermore, Di also has a gorgeous, personable and enthusiastic fashion stylist working with her at Ussed & Abbussed by the name of Hana. She is also definitely her own best advertisement when it comes to wearing what makes you feel good, irrespective of colour. In fact, this is the entire philosophy of Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store.
Quirkiness in a pleasant way lives here, and so does style.
At this point, you might be wondering about the reference to this fashion store being a department store? It is accurate and impressive to share with you that Ussed & Abbussed sell quality new and vintage clothes, shoes, jewellery, handbags and other fashion accessories from well over 2000 designers. You will be in awe at first (well yours truly certainly was at first sight) as to how Di is able to stock, as well as remember the attributes and intricacies of these designer brands of such abundant numbers. She does it amazingly well, without giving it a second thought, and so does Hana. An eclectic, New York style emphasis is maintained with bric-a-brac available too. Additionally, Ussed & Abbused also do hair extensions upon request. Calling Ussed & Abbussed just a shop clearly does not do this locale any justice or respect.
Taken at the store front. The epitome behind Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store.
All in all, Ussed & Abbussed The Department Stores' floor stock comprises of around 80% new items, and 20% vintage items. For the latter, the vintage stock is in excellent, mint condition. I even had the opportunity to try some on, and they feel just divine.
Then again, I've learnt so much from Di and Hana. When styling me with a couple of the dresses I chose to try, Hana says to me that "If it doesn't feel good, don't buy it." And "It's not about the dress. It is all about the woman behind the dress."
For a few of you, you could feel a little overwhelmed, yet with two amazing, incredible women here to genuinely help you and serve you; there is no rush. You will come out with an amazing deal, and some amazing item/s that will give your wardrobe an instant lift and amazing feel. For the ladies among you - if you're in the market to buy a pair of affordable designer shoes, and if your foot size is between a 6.5 to a 10 Australian, you're in lady luck.
From spending a great two-hours (really easy to) at Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store, you will find that a quirky, homely feel is exuded; as well as a social and highly friendly vibe. Definitely an unconventional feel. Then again, people of all ages, genders and backgrounds love to come to Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store. Even if you happen to not be living in Sydney and you stumbled across this article; it is definitely worth the flights back and forth to Sydney to give yourself and your wardrobe an incredible and amazing lift.
This amazing store has also attracted celebrities and other high profile individuals as customers, such as the New South Wales Governor General Marie Bashir, as well as models. TV show producers in Melbourne have even flown up to source and buy appropriate fashion items from Di, of which have appeared on TV shows such as Puberty Blues. Furthermore, Di was approached by The Great Gatsby film producers to style the cast for this ever popular movie of the same name released in 2013. Ussed & Abbussed have also helped their customers choose the right outfits for engagements and weddings to name but a few. Their well thought out shopfront window tells a few great stories behind this unique creation.
Another quality vintage find, at such an amazing price.
Additionally, Ussed & Abbussed can also accommodate special requests under the banner of retail therapy parties. This is where Di and Hana close the shop for two hours for private styling sessions, during which guests receive helpful advice and are inspired to make purchases because they choose to, not because they are forced into doing so. You can organise a retail therapy party for any reason, and I kid you not, people have used this valuable service in the past to enjoy a divorce party! Any reason to party for sure. Bookings for such services are essential.
The designer labels that Di stocks and sells at Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store include Emporio Armani, Hugo Boss, Wayne Cooper, Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Michael Kors, Ted Baker, Marc Jacobs, Versace, Collette Dinnigan, Sass & Bide, Ralph Lauren, Kenzo Men and Karen Millen to only name a few.
Di also serves some amazing coffee, and I just loved the roasted nut flavour. So glad I did not ask for sugar when offered. Meanwhile, on the subject of generosity, must I say that Di and the in-house stylish Hana are two extraordinarily generous people. Why?
Firstly, Di gives away not $1000, but an amazing $8000 worth of stock away annually to high profile charities such as The Salvation Army, as well as to St Vincent's Hospital. Di has also worked with large corporations such as McDonald's as part of this initiative. It was a decision and commitment she chose to initiate when setting up Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store, with an authentic, generous heart without expecting anything in return. I love her for that alone.
Each designer item is clearly labelled for your convenience
Di sources many of her designer clothing stock from countries such as the USA, France, Spain and the UK. Di does travel to the USA fairly often for this purpose. This is a genuine sign as to how passionate she clearly is about bringing affordable designer clothing (new and vintage) home to Sydney.
New and vintage fashion items are available for every occasion at Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store
The prices are just exceptional too. I mean, you can even see similar new and vintage clothes in elegant shops in nearby Mosman charging an arm and a leg in comparison to what Di charges for such luxe. This amazing woman is seriously helping all to feel like a million dollars for an affordable price.
For example, I walked away two-hours later with a pair of designer boots for only $A85 from Dick Boons - a UK based designer. I am still excited that these awesome boots (as pictured above) came in my size. Seriously, these boots retail for around $A600, and I really do feel like a million dollars wearing them. You can buy a quality, vintage handbag at Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store for only $240, of which normally retails for $1600.
You will walk away with real luxe better than anticipated. Even better, lay by facilities are available. All this, and an abundance of help and assistance to help you choose your theme is right at your disposal, and this is no fly by night, designer discount pop-up store either. Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store is definitely no marketplace or discount store either. Real, authentic new and vintage designer labels are available in style, grace and abundance for all.
Art abounds all around with such fashion and beauty
I also love the decorations, and the overall ambience. Di has clearly put a lot of love and care into the store's layout and display spaces. I also loved signing the visitors book at the front counter. Even though it might have been my first time signing this book, it definitely won't be my last. Di is also going to source me a black cashmere scarf, and will ring me as soon as she has it in stock. Di and Hana definitely go the extra mile to ensure that customers feel completely over the moon at Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store. Again, irrespective as to whether or not you know your designers, you're more than welcome and looked after. Now you can understand my 20 out of 10 score. Still blown away. Experience what I have experienced, and you'll appreciate why. Cheers.
A big thank you to Di and Hana, for helping me choose the right pair of boots. Thank you so much guys. Despite a hungry tummy at the time of taking this picture, no one could wipe this smile off my face.
Yes, this store and the staff within are truly fabulous. It's a warm and personal experience yet offers the peace to browse extensively amongst a huge and delightful selection. Amongst other items, I bought a wonderful red DKNY coat of quality and styling unseen in most new clothes these days. I estimate it cost less than 10% of the price of a similar item new, if that could be found at all. Just Vanished a small stain and it's a treasure, in perfect condition. Everyone introduced to this place adores it too. Without going overboard Ussed & Abbussed is unique on this planet.
It is amazing. I was shopping at Ussed & Abbussed The Department Store again this morning, and then another customer walks in and mentioned this WeekendNotes article. Di mentioned that "the writer of this article (me) is in the store right now" - and then called me over and introduced me to this customer. This wonderful reader was delighted and thanked me for this article, and knew who I was/introduced me by my first name, and recognised me from my profile photo straight away. How wonderful :)
I was disappointed that I went there with a friend after a movie at Cremorne and they were closed, although we were there during opening hours. I will try again sometime as I have wanted to have a look since seeing it mentioned on WNotes a couple of years ago. A note pinned to the door would have helped if they had to step out during business hours.
