We were driving through Salisbury recently and desperately hungry so we stopped to sample Urban Burger - a link in a chain of chains that has brought 'healthy burgers' to the Australian public. They claim to "make the best burgers ever" and while I certainly wouldn't award them that particular accolade, Urgan Burger does have a lot going for it.

I guess when compared to the greasy, fat laden burgers on overly processed white rolls that Australia had been used to, one might call these burgers (and those of Grill'd and the like) healthy. Their sour dough buns are baked fresh daily, they use skinless chemical, hormone and antibiotic free chicken, fry their chips in cholesterol free cotton oil and everything is made fresh to order.

The menu is comprised of an extensive range of classic and non traditional beef and chicken burgers, just 3 vegetarian options and the usual fries and dipping sauces. Customers have the option of turning any burger on the menu into a salad or wrap.

We ordered a Blissful Buddha ($9.90 - tofu and veggie pattie, rocket, grated carrot, tangy red relish and aioli) and an Urban Red ($10.50, chickpea and red lentil pattie, brie, basil pesto, salad, tomato relish and aioli) with 2 sides of regular chips ($3.90 each) and chilli aioli ($0.70 each).

Everything did taste fresh, the ingredients seemed to be of good quality and the servings were generous; my only complaint was that the actual patties on both burgers were rather bland. The meat eaters will be pleased to know that the man at the table next to us had a Chicken Caesar burger ($10.90) and he said it was really tasty, and he visits Urban Burger often.

And I have to give it to them for the chips, they were cooked to perfection - deliciously crispy on the outside and hot and fluffy on the inside.

Overall, the prices are reasonable (average burger price $10), the service was fast and friendly, the wait time acceptable (10 minutes) and the food was fresh; I would return if I was in the area.
