My friend and I were on a mid-week adventure to Hahndorf. On our way, I wanted to try the . Awarded best bar presentation and experience by the AHA, I was expecting an amazing lunch and they delivered.

It's just a slight getaway from the city, a scenic drive up the winding roads of the Adelaide Hills to the small town of Uraidla. The hotel is easy to find with distinctive signs stating Uraidla's worst pub and Uraidla's best pub.

No wonder they won an award for presentation - it was beautiful inside, comfortable and homely with different areas having different decor and feel. To the right of the entrance, a fireplace with brown chesterfield sofas, stone walls and beautiful faint lighting. If you do not pay close attention to the details, the whole place could blur into one vision. Every direction you look, there was something amazing. Brick, stone, pressed metal, wood and iron are all used with miss-matched furniture throughout and dated lights over the bar.

Past the bar, towards the back of the building, a sunken level features the restaurant, with large open windows, antique style cane chairs underneath wooden tables and colourful wooden beams make a beautiful feature wall.

We were greeted by a very friendly staff member and sat down with a menu and offered table water.

The menu was pleasing with lots of options. The pages were colourful, bright and boarded by amazing pictures.

To start, a bakery Beetroot Roll with whipped Woodside pepper berry fetta and olive oil. I ended up using my fork to scoop any of the remaining cheese up because it was amazing.

For main, slow-cooked Angus Beef Cheeks served with celeriac, sweet potato & black lentil mash, date & orange chutney and zucchini flower. An amazing meal, which was filling and full of rich flavour.

My friend ordered the fish special. She did enjoy her meal but thought it was a small sizing for the price.

Overall, we were both very pleased and there was a mutual agreement that we were too full for dessert but the Kahlua Mousse did sound amazing.

The decor, food and service is a good enough reason to visit. Another great reason is they support South Australia wherever possible with produce and wines being sourced locally. Also next door, they also have a cafe , bakery , where all loaves are baked on site, and a newly opened (June 2018) brewery .

Opening Hours 11am – midnight Lunch 12pm – 2:30pm Dinner 6pm – 8:30pm
