Upstairs @ Fred's delivers an exciting dining experience, brimming with an alluring inner-city vibe you'll want to hang onto.
Arriving upstairs, we feel as though we'd stepped back in time to a place where decadence was cool, conjuring up a world where Mad Men meets Sex and the City, with a little twist of Alice in Wonderland and The Great Gatsby.

Inside, we have a choice of eye-catching chaise-lounges, as well as a number of table and chairs, or we can sit outside on the huge veranda with views up and down Camden's main street. As it's a little colder, we decide to sit inside in the dining room, beside the fireplace. We notice the striking designer wallpaper throughout the space, vintage art hanging from the walls and the mantlepiece made complete with over-sized mirrors.
Friendly staff come to take our order and we notice a light fitting above us is a top hat and the table numbers are playing cards. We smile. We feel the need to get up and have a wander through the hallways and are happy to find some cocktail culture-inspired private function rooms. These rooms, we discover, would be perfect for engagement parties, weddings, birthdays, Father's Day lunch, a haunting Halloween dinner, Christmas party, New Year's Eve bash or any other special event we could imagine. Think cocktail masterclasses, gentleman's whiskey tastings, murder mystery dinners and stylish high teas.

Back at our table, our breakfast orders arrive. So much food! Veggie Brekkie includes avocado, grilled tomato, mushrooms, wilted spinach, baked beans, sautéed potatoes and fried bread, all for $16. My husband enjoys the Fred's Bennie with sourdough toast, poached eggs, wilted spinach, hollandaise sauce with a choice of bacon, salmon or field mushrooms (he chose bacon) for $16. The food was delicious, the ingredients were fresh and tasty and the portions were generous, which made it great value for money.
You can pretty much stay here all day and try the rest of the menu. Lunch and dinner visitors can't go past the creative Tapas menu. Work your way through Fred's extensive collection of craft beers, or relax with a selection of wines, champagnes and cocktails, enjoy live music and while away the hours of yesteryear in style.
