Over twenty years ago, a university education was free. Now to obtain a university degree, a student is confronted with an invoice totalling to thousands of dollars, or graduates with a giant HEC debt that amounts to tens of thousands of dollars. These enormous financial costs and debts are not very appealing; which results in many adults avoiding a university education. Now, with all the TAFE cuts occurring and higher fees placed on TAFE courses, similar to higher education fees; there is an avoidance of attending TAFE.

However, there is a way to obtain a free TAFE certificate. This free certificate will not equal the reputation of a university degree, but it will make your resume more appealing to potential employers.

UPSKILL Talent2**

This organisation provides free (scholarships) courses to anyone over the age of 18, who has not completed an undergraduate degree. They currently provide the following courses.

** Certificate III in Business
Certificate III in Business Sales
Certificate III in Financial Services
Certificate IV in Business Administration
Certificate IV in Business
Diploma of Management
Diploma of Business**


To qualify for a scholarship, you must be over 18, do not have an undergraduate degree and must be seen as underprivileged (Health Care Card, Centrelink benefit/unemployed). However, if you do not qualify for a scholarship, you can still study one of the above courses. Course fees range from $450 - $3,720; which can be placed on HEC.

Courses are flexible and can be completed at your convenience that is within 10 months of enrolment. Courses are studied online, therefore, there is no need to attend classes or buy expensive books. However, when you enrol in your chosen course, students are provided with a supervisor. Therefore, you can meet with your supervisor at Talents2 office, if struggling with the course.



To complete a course, students complete roughly ten units; which involve reading the set online reading material, completing learning activities and online assessments. The qualification obtained at the end of the course is nationally recognised throughout Australia.
