A variety of upcycling craft workshops are ready and waiting for you at Reverse Garbage in Marrickville. Up until December 16 there are workshops on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. What better way to give a present? Give something you created from reusable resources.
An example is the 'Reuse Christmas Craft' workshop every Thursday night from November 5 to December 10. This one is for all age groups and you can make all the Christmas cards and gifts you need for your family and friends. What a talking point around the table, "Yes, I made your card with garbage". Imagine how much you can reduce your carbon footprint at this workshop.
If you're a knitter you might like 'Giant knitting and junk couture' workshop held on Tuesday mornings. This one is FREE and is being held up until December 15. If you enjoy knitting and crafts why not put your talents to good use. Items made at this workshop will be a part of an installation at Reverse Garbage.
Have you ever wondered where pre-loved items end up? Well, before Reverse Garbage was set up in the 1970s, lots ended up in garbage dumps and eventually became part of landfill.
These workshops are not only fun they also teach you how to reduce waste. "The aim is to have fun and teach about waste reduction through the reuse of materials and low-waste construction techniques," said Reverse Garbage CEO Dare Kavanagh.
