Where the old meets the new and old becomes new
A little over an hours drive from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast, just outside of Ipswich, is Harrisville a delightful little town full of olde worlde charm. Heritage-listed buildings line the main street, though it is more than bricks and mortar that gives this settlement its sense of days-gone-by.

Upcycled Treasure - Our Little Gem, located at 30 Queen Street, is a prime example of earlier days melding with current times. Proprietor, Samantha Vine, proudly calls herself a furniture artisan and loves to share her passion for "reloved, refinished and repurposed" furniture and home decor. A retail outlet for everything you need to bring furniture-with-a-history back to life, including specialty paints, finishes and accessories Sam also runs workshops to show you just how it's done, from mini-workshops to how-to shabby chic. All details are here.

Upcycled Treasure also carries a large line of DIY supplies for enthusiasts with approximately 80% of stock being Australian made and owned brands.

The attractive range of home decor items will also pique your interest and would make either a welcome gift for yourself or a friend. Have a look at these:

I have to admit to making a start on my Christmas shopping during my visit. You see, I'm always on the lookout for gifts that are easy to post yet purposeful. That many of Sam's gift lines are also Australian made and come with their own story is a bonus, such as a small business evolving from COVID disasters: lip balms made from natural products in Canungra and foot soak salts from Fern Tree Lane. JusticeBags will be going into Christmas stockings this year as they are inexpensive, practical, and the profits raised go to charities who care and support women and children who have experienced abuse or homelessness.

This truly is a feel-good store! But wait, there is more! If you are looking for a catch up with girlfriends that includes craft, good times and a great vibe, Samantha can organise a Gem Getaway Weekend, which includes one night's accommodation, with painting/decoupage workshops for both beginner and experienced crafters, with morning and afternoon teas included. How much fun does this sound? If you have any questions about these events contact Sam directly at or 0481 813 692.

Opening hours are as follows:

Tuesday. CLOSED
Wednesday. 10 AM - 4 PM
Thursday. 10 AM - 4 PM

A beaut little shop May. I love these types of shop to browse and like you write about. They deserve the publicity that Weekend Notes give them. Neil.
