All of us admit to owning at least one t-shirt that we don't wear anymore yet for some reason feel reluctant to part with. You could donate your old tee to the op shop, or better yet, turn it into something rather spectacular, like these amazing macrame necklaces:
Upcycled Macramé Necklaces
Obviously turning a t-shirt into a statement knotted necklace requires a certain skill that must be taught, but the good news is you can learn the art of macramé thanks to the Colour Box Studio's new Upcycled Macramé Necklace Workshop with ethically minded textile creative Kirri-Mae Sampson of Kirri-MaDe.
Following her successful Macramé Hanger Workshops also held in conjunction with the Colour Box Studio, Kirri-Mae will be transferring her macramé techniques into a necklace class using t-shirts otherwise destined for landfill.
Upcycled Macramé T-shirt Necklaces
More than 500,000 tonnes of textile waste ends up in Australian landfill every year and that is why classes like this are beneficial to all of us. Not only are you learning how to create a beautiful on-trend piece for yourself or your loved one, but you are re-using economical (often free) existing material without putting extra strain on the environment; a win-win for all.
In this 2.5 hour class taking place at Pozible's Headquarters in Collingwood, you will learn the best way to deconstruct a t-shirt as well as a variety of macramé knots to turn a pre-loved piece of clothing into a stunning statement piece.
Kirri-Mae's T-shirt to Treasure: Upcycled Macramé Necklace Workshop costs $60 which will include a FREE Kirri-MaDe Goody Bag. Places are limited, to book online head to Colour Box Studio here.
All t-shirts will be provided for each participant, although if you would prefer a particular colour you are welcome to bring your own. All images c/o Colour Box Studio.
