This is a unique exhibition showcasing the work of artist Andy Quilty and another unnamed artist, who is currently a Curtin Masters candidate and an inmate in a WA prison.

These artists are exploring the avenues of punishment, rehabilitation, cultural implications towards those people in jails, and they do this through their drawing, painting and installation.

Those who are incarcerated have many things that impact on their day to day living and these include "architectural design elements and micro-social prison environments". These elements can have a bearing on both the physical as well as the psychological well-being of these individuals. At this exhibition, you are invited to experience this through first-person "insider and outsider" perspectives.

Andy Quilty describes the exhibition as - "my collaborator in this show has made a really accomplished and important body of work in the discussion around Australia's current affinity towards hyper-incarceration and how we treat prisoners."

The exhibition will be held at the Heathcote Cultural Precinct, 58/60 Duncraig Road, Applecross and this gallery is open from Tuesdays to Fridays from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 4.00 pm. Entry to this fascinating exhibition is FREE.

Opening night is on 4th May, 2018 from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm and then the exhibition will go on until 10th June, 2018.

The venue, Heathcote was originally a hospital building that was part of the Heathcote Mental Reception Home, and the gallery is now in Swann House in this precinct.

Here, they host regular exhibitions from local artists, as well as a museum detailing the history of the Heathcote site.

The now Heathcote Museum and Gallery has a commitment to exhibiting all different works from people who see art and culture as an important part of their life.

The gallery aims to nurture the production, enjoyment and understanding of diverse art through interesting programmes and excellence, and this is one such exhibition that "hits the nail on the head" by using an unnamed prisoner as part of this event.
