Unsigned Project Radio is calling for submissions from Perth acts

Calling all Perth bands, singers and musicians in general there's a radio station out there that actually wants to play your music.

Unsigned Project Radio is a new streaming radio service that is dedicated to giving a voice to indie artists around the world.

Launching in January 2015, the online radio station is already streaming a test transmission with Western Australian artists Nat Ripepi, Travis Caudle and the John Butler Trio on rotation.

Station program manager Shayne Locke is calling for more independent artists and labels to get involved, including those in Western Australia.

"It's really taking off already and being embraced by the music community," he said. "The number of independent artists vastly outweighs commercial Top 40 musicians but the bulk of radio stations play what major labels pump out with little consideration for the immense talent in the indie sector."

Unsigned Project Radio is the brainchild of the Soul Traveller Radio team (a "conscious music" station that broadcasts into 150 countries) and has been created in response to ongoing requests from independent artists.

Shayne says: "The Unsigned Project is designed to give a voice to the indie community and showcase the talent that is sitting on our very doorstep. If you are an indie artist or label, then the Unsigned Project is designed to be your support community."

Famous Inc, a free community program for upcoming singers, is working with Unsigned Project Radio and rock journalist Scott Podmore has also given his support.

"Even though Unsigned Project Radio has only just launched the test transmission, we already have producers in Washington and New York working with street buskers in Australia to create a unified effort to enhance the indie music scene," Scott says.

"These guys need all the help they can get and this really is a golden opportunity for them."

Music for the station can be submitted via You can also check out the Facebook page a before a digital magazine is released in March.

Unsigned Project Radio is also creating an artists' community for special collaborations and projects.
