In an age dominated by posts, reels and shares, imagine unplugging from social media for 24 hours. Well, now you can accept the challenge and support mental health as part of Unplug24 on 24 October 2024.
Unplug 24 is a universal day of action against social media addiction and encourages everyone to value real relationships and experiences. Celebrities, athletes and public figures will be taking a break from social media for one day and lead the way to unplugging from their phones.
Some of this year's Unpluggers are Singer Jessica Mauboy, former Australian cricket captain
Adam Gilchrist , TV personality and fitness trainer Michelle Bridges, rugby league legend Corey Parker, Opals Alice Kunek and Bec Cole, Home & Away star Juliet Godwin, and politicians
Senator Jacqui Lambie and Andrew Charlton, Labor’s special envoy for cyber security, who are putting down their Apps on October 24.
Research has shown that consistently staying plugged in can impact mental well-being. Several studies have been conducted on the impacts of social media, and it has been indicated that the prolonged use of social media platforms such as Facebook may be related to negative signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. Furthermore, social media can create a lot of pressure to create the stereotype that others want to see and also be as popular as others.
Unplug was created by the charity,
SmackTalk , which was created by Wayne Holdsworth following the death of his son, Mac.
So why not think about your social media use, take a break and Unplug from Social Media on October 24?
