Kicking off the New Year in classic community style, the Unley Gourmet Gala by the City of Unley is returning this January to provide with a street party that is jam-packed with festivities for people of all ages and will unravel entertainment for those who are looking to be a part of the Santos Tour Down Under (TDU) 2019.

On January 17, King William Road will be transformed to incorporate more than 20,000 lovers of food, music, fashion, and cycling for their annual event, which will be turning 19 this year.

Visitors can expect to enjoy from a range of more than 30 pop-up stalls offering gourmet food and drinks by notable local businesses (such as Beresford Wines and 23rd Street Distillery, to name a few).

There will also be live music for people to get their dancing shoes on the street, including tunes by Ollie English, Erin McKellar, and Marcus Ryan. Joining hands with the Australian Migrant Resource Centre, the Gala will also feature a World Music Stage, which will incorporate entertainment from international performers, who come from Africa, Greece, Pakistan, Lebanon, and China.

Fashionistas will be treated to fashion parades at 6.15pm, 7.30pm, and 8.45pm, while foodies can enjoy free cooking demonstrations throughout the day. Child-friendly activities, including crafts and entertainment by DJ Monski Mouse, will occur at the free kids' zone (aptly situated away from the busy hustle and bustle of the street).

Teaming up with the SA Youth Arts organization, there will also be a "teen takeover" from 6pm - 7pm, where young people will be performing everything from slam poetry to a fashion designer showcase and local music bands Malibu Drive and Empty Threats.

Given how this event will coincide with the Santos TDU event, cycling enthusiasts can look forward to the return of the competition to find SA's best Middle-Aged Man in Lycra (MAMIL) and have a chance to win a prize pack to include a ride in the TDU Stage 4 tour parade car.

"It will be an evening full of wonderful sounds, sights and delights with King William Road almost bursting at the seams from all the excitement and entertainment." City of Unley Mayor Michael Hewitson

The Unley Gourmet Gala will be held on Thursday, January 17, from 5pm to 10.30pm.
