Are you one of the many people who prefer to hold a paper book rather than read from a Kindle? If so, then you will love the
32nd Annual Book Fair. Running from
Saturday 9th to Wednesday 13th September, 10am-4pm at The
University of Sydney's Great Hall. This Fair has thousands of quality second-hand books in easy to find categories. You might need a strong basket or trolley to carry them all home!
Due to this Fair being the most eagerly anticipated and well supported Book Fair in Sydney, it will run for five days in the historic Great Hall allowing ample opportunity to grab a book bargain.
This year is the Book Fair's 32nd anniversary and there are tens of thousands of quality second-hand books covering more than eighty different categories to choose from at bargain prices. The
keynote attraction this year is a magnificent collection of
Art books from the
estate of the late Amina and Franco Belgiorno-Nettis. For those unfamiliar with the Belgiorno-Nettis family, Franco Belgiorno-Nettis, was the Founding Governor of the first Biennale of Sydney held in 1973.
So you don't faint while losing track of time browsing the aisles, there is a sausage sizzle on the Saturday and Sunday on the lawn next to the Great Hall, with the proceeds of which will go to the local public school.
On the last 2 days of the Fair – buyers can fill a box with books of their choice for just $10 on the Tuesday and just $5 for a box on the final day, Wednesday.
Please note: On the weekend of the Book Fair,
9th - 10th September,
parking within the University grounds
is free - so get in early.
The Book Fair is organised and managed by the Chancellor's Committee, a group of dedicated volunteers who raise funds for scholarships for students in need, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and students with a disability, as well as for projects of University-wide significance. Since its establishment, the Committee has raised more than $3 million.
The message is: the more you spend in supporting the Book-Fair, the more funding becomes available to the Chancellor's Committee to put back into the University.
So, do yourself a favour, bookmark the
9th – 13th September in your diary. Doors will open at
10.00am each day, so be early to grab yourself a bargain!
