Sentosa Island in Singapore boasts an array of attractions, exhibitions and museums to entertain visitors of all ages. The island of playgrounds, close to 5 km2 and Singapore's 4th largest, is home to some of city's most popular tourist spots.
Resorts World Sentosa incorporates many of the island's must-sees, including the amazing Universal Studios theme park, Adventure Cove Waterpark and S.E.A. Aquarium; the latter includes one of the world's largest aquariums.
Locals and visitors to Singapore flock to Universal Studios, and rightly so. Universal Studios Singapore offers the very first Hollywood themed park in the region, where you and your family can Ride The Movies™ and television shows you've grown to love.
Universal Studios Singapore is split into 7 zones, each of which allow you and your little people to experience your favourite movies in a unique new way.
Universal Studios Singapore Zones
Ride the fastest and scariest roller coaster (the Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN vs CYLON), cruise the dinosaur infested Jurassic Park rapids, take a gentle ride on the Madagascar carousel, walk along the replicated streets of New York and meet-and-greet your favourite characters, or simply enjoy in one of the many themed restaurants scattered throughout the resort.
As you enter into the adventure theme park, you can choose to walk in either direction, clock-wise or anti clock-wise. All 7 zones are interconnected, and the park is easy to navigate. The following overview takes in Universal Studios Singapore in an anti clock-wise direction: Madagascar
Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria and the Penguins from DreamWorks' animated movie favourite come to life in 'Madagascar: A Crate Adventure'. Suited to little children as well as the big kids, ride along a gentle river cruise and relive scenes from Madagascar.
Shrek and Puss in Boots are the main movies featured in Far Far Away. Main attractions include the Enchanted Airways junior roller coaster, Shrek 4D Adventure (feel the action as well as see it!), Magic Potion Spin, Donkey LIVE and the all-new Puss in Boots' Giant Journey where you will experience a suspended coaster.
Enter Singapore's very own Jurassic Park! Hear the roar of the Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure™ (a favourite of many) where you'll spin around a prehistoric world and get soaked along the way (BYO raincoat if you want to stay dry!) Other rides include the Canopy Flyer, Water-World featuring live stunts and explosions, and the Dino Soarin'™ Pteranodon ride. You can also have a go at the Amber Rock Climb searching for precious stones and fossils.
Ancient Egypt introduces you to the adventure movie series The Mummy , where your young adventurers can explore an Egyptian excavation site on the Treasure Hunters™ ride, or plunge into darkness on the Revenge of the Mummy™ roller-coaster (the latter is not suitable for those that scare easily). Sci-Fi City
There are some major rides here that you can't miss out on in Sci-Fi City, in fact, if you're after a thrill, head straight here.
Excitement in its purest form, you can choose to take the red HUMAN rack where the high-speed suspended coaster will flip and twist you 14 stories into the air, otherwise dare to ride the blue CYLON track where you will ride an intense corkscrew coaster. Both tracks compliment each other, and take you on a thrilling journey you won't forget in a hurry (height restrictions apply).
Another must-ride is the TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle. Arguably the best experience in the resort, the Transformers ride takes you on an unbelievable journey that transports you right into a movie scene. I dare you not to flinch when you see shrapnel flying toward you, and I guarantee your hands will clench as you 'fall' from a building. Roller-coasters are one thing, but the TRANFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle is something far greater.
Away from the thrills, but into the Lights! Camera! Action! Hosted by Steven Spielberg you'll see what it is like to experience a hurricane in New York, and meet the Sesame Street crew on a Space Chase.
In Hollywood you'll meet the Sesame Street crew once more in a theatrical show, enjoy a unique American Diner experience, take in street entertainment family fun, and shop your hearts out in a variety of themed outlets selling collectibles, clothing, toys and more.
From Singapore, catch the North-East Line or Circle Line to HarbourFront Station. Head to the 3rd level of VivoCity shopping centre, buy your train ticket and jump on board the Sentosa Express. You can also choose to walk over Sentosa Boardwalk if you wish.
**WRITER'S TOP TIP**
Buy a Universal Express ticket, it is worth every cent. For an extra S$30 per person (at the time of writing) you can flash your Universal Express ticket at the start of each ride, and avoid the queues. Whilst you won't always get to the front of the queue with your Universal Express ticket (because you won't be the only person to have purchased one) you'll get pretty close. In my family's experience, we saved ourselves at least an hour queue time on some of the most popular rides, and walked straight onto the quietest. Popular rides may incur a queue time of 70 minutes, yet with a Universal Express ticket, you are looking at an approximate wait time of 10-15 minutes.
