It all began in 2008 when Sydney Olympic Park Parkinson's NSW hosted the Annual Unity Walk & Run. The event gives a voice to all those living with or touched by Parkinson's disease.

There are over 80,000 Australians living with Parkinson's disease, which is the second most common degenerative neurological condition – there is currently no known cause or cure.

The Annual Unity Walk & Run has been set up to raise the very much needed funds and awareness of this disease. The Unity Walk & Run is the perfect family day out filled with fun, while at the same time helping a great cause.

The event's focus is on a leisurely stroll or, for the more adventurous, a 4km or 8km run. There are fantastic prizes to be won on the day and the popular Unity Walk & Run raffle is back.

To get involved you can register online for the walk / run and you can donate as well online on their website.

The course details: The 4km and 8km run will be held around the scenic Sydney Olympic Park precinct and there will be water stations. The first 450 people to register for the running events will receive a free Unity Walk and Run singlet with race packs.

For the walk event, participants can either choose from the 4km or the short course around the Sydney Olympic Park precinct - there will be signposts to guide walkers. On average the 4km walk takes approximately one hour to complete at a leisurely pace, however, you are able to stroll the course or just walk part of it – whatever suits you.

Wheelchair event is an 8km race, the course is around the Sydney Olympic Park precinct and there will be water stations on course.

All the monies raised including sponsoring a friend, fundraising online and participating in the runs & walks will go towards providing vital care and support services for people living with Parkinson's, their families, carers and loved ones. It will also be used to fund ongoing research into Parkinson's disease.

There will be entertainment, food and plenty of fun activities happening around 12:30pm on the day, so do check these out.

This event is for everyone, including your pooch! The walk is wheelchair accessible as well.

There is a number of parking at Sydney Olympic Park - check website on parking details, alternatively you can arrive by train – train tickets are for free for those who register online – check website for more information.
