An upcoming conference is bringing together women from diverse backgrounds to explore their Christian faith. This is an opportunity to hear stories of faith and challenges in today's fast paced world. It is being curated by Deidre Palmer, Uniting Church leader and Moderator. Deirdre is bringing together a conference program that includes speakers from all walks of life. The academic and spiritual, cultural and professional, theological and historical, political and personal.



UnitingWomen 2016 is a nationwide movement of faithful Christian women who will gather to share the ways Christ is inspiring hope in their lives and communities. Women in Adelaide will gather at Wesley Kent Town Uniting Church. This is a Australian event held every two years.



Wonderful Speakers
One of the presentations to look forward to is by Ruthmary Bond. Ruthmary will speak on her topic "Sharing your faith by just being you". Ruthmary Bond is a real mover and shaker. She has started two not-for-profit Experience Cafes in Adelaide, which support new migrants, refugees and students to gain their much needed local work experience in Adelaide. Q & A
will also host Senator Penny Wong as a panelist for the conference Q&A Saturday evening: "Where there is life there is hope." The Q&A forum will be hosted by Julie McCrossin. Other speakers are Tanya Hosch, Geraldine Hawkes, Lorna Hallahan and Elenie Poulos.

The conference will be a time of sharing with each other, listening to speakers and participating in workshops. Many inspiring women will lead these workshops.

Walking Tour
There is definitely something for everyone at the 2016 UnitingWomen conference. Dr Marlene Edwards and Denise Schumann will take women on a historic walking tour of Wesley Kent Town as part of the workshop program.

Other speakers to look forward to:
Khadija Gbla
Khadija Gbla is one of Australia's most gifted speakers. Khadija has been recognised for her ability to influence community change and raise awareness, particularly around multicultural and gender issues. She is especially noted for her honest and passionate 2014 TED Talk addressing female genital mutilation.



Maleta Rumaroti, Sureka Goringe and Sef Carroll
Where will women lead the church?
Maleta Rumaroti is the secretary for mission at Kiribati Uniting Church. She will be joined by UnitingWorld senior leaders, Sureka Goringe and Sef Carroll, to explore how women's stories
create a powerful and energising source for leadership. Drawing on their own experiences and stories of leadership in the church and community, their workshop will provoke the question –
where will women lead the church next?

**Roslyn Malngumba and Rebecca Gamdala
Weaving stories of hope and reconciliation**
At the 2014 UnitingWomen conference, Roslyn and her daughter Rebecca, both from Mapuru in remote North-East Arnhem Land, shared their special journey starting Mapuru Christian School. In 2016, they will share stories of old and new, woven in time through their craft of basket weaving.

**Sharonne Price
Keeping the glass half full**
Sharonne Price is a social worker, chaplain, writer, mother and grandma with a long history in the Uniting Church. Until recently, Sharonne also held the position of Executive Officer of the Uniting Church SA's Pastoral Relations and Mission Planning team. Sharonne's workshop will help participants hone their skills in activating and maintaining a hopeful stance. She will also use Christian framework to reflect on hopefulness – possibilities, passion, presence and call – and how it relates to the world of psychology.

**Helen Whittington
Sustaining hope as a social worker (or other professional, health or community service worker)**
Helen Whittington is a social worker and family therapist with experience in varied counselling roles, particularly with children affected by abuse and trauma. She explores how to be hopeful when your working life confronts you with vulnerable people who have faced many challenges. She discusses how participants can go on supporting people to find hope, and how we can sustain hopefulness when services seem over-stretched or unjust.



Elective Workshops
On the Friday and Saturday afternoons of the conference there will be elective workshops covering a wide range of topics. These workshops will be a great opportunity for conversation, participation, and sharing in small groups – and for exploring things you might not have tried before. The workshops on Friday and Saturday afternoon will occur at Prince Alfred College located at 23 Dequetteville Terrace, Kent Town, Adelaide.

Registration for UnitingWomen attendees will begin at 6pm on Thursday 28 April with official proceedings beginning at 7pm. The conference will close at 12 noon on Sunday 1 May 2016.
UnitingWomen will be hosted by Wesley Kent Town Uniting Church located at 27 Grenfell street, Kent Town, Adelaide, South Australia. Workshops on Friday and Saturday afternoon will occur at Prince Alfred College located at 23 Dequetteville Terrace, Kent Town, Adelaide.
