United Cup - Quarter Finals in Perth

Some of the best tennis players in the world are currently in Perth competing in the United Cup for a share of $10 million in prize money and 500 ranking points.

The tournament is unique, in that players compete as part of teams representing their country, much like the old Hopman Cup format which last played in Perth in 2019. Teams are made up of six players; three ladies and three males. It's a round-robin format and each draw includes a ladies' singles, male singles and mixed-doubles pairing. Tennis is for the most part an individual sport, so seeing players represent their country and play in tennis is unique and fosters a sense of country nationalism and rivalry.

We don't know who will be in the quarter-finals yet, but some of the world's top-ranking players are featuring. many of the world's top-ranking players including ladies number two Iga Swiatek from Poland, number four Jessica Pegula from the USA, and number six Maria Sakkari from Greece. As for the guys, Novak Djokovic is world number one representing Serbia, number two Ivan Dodig from Croatia, number 3 Wesley Koolhof from the Netherlands, and number four Neal Skupski from Great Britain.

The Australian team is facing tough competition against teams from the USA and Great Britain, a real-life love match with boyfriend and girlfriend Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter on opposite teams.

There are a couple of matches left, so make sure to check it out. A day out at the tennis is well worth it. It's an exciting spectator sport, with high-calibre players that get better and better each year in fierce competition.
