Unique Items Found at Markets

Regular marketgoers often see the same stalls at different markets, although every market is different in its own way. It could be their setting and variety of stalls. Every now and again something different or unusual is offered by a talented artisan. Below are ten of the most unique ones I have come across.
Dinosaur Taxidermy is more than unique and a new product to me. They are framed butterflies, insects and spiders etc. The subjects are real ones who have passed their use by date.
The Mooroolbark Men’s Shed displayed a remarkable range of wooden items made in their shed. Other products were bread and potato storage boxes and several outback little houses. That would be a great novelty gift for someone who has everything.
I like to seek out unusual items when I visit markets. One of those was Chris’s Firepits. These are cleverly made from disused gas cylinders. “They will last a lifetime,” says Chris, “as they are made from hardened steel.”
Another unique range of products is MD, Market Delights. The delights are hard to describe. They are mostly silhouette figures all hand-cut by George with his ultra-fine fretsaw. They are a real work of art.
Rosie Posie Floral Designs offers just that, floral designs. Dried flower arrangements and fresh-cut flower designs. Most unusual are many succulents in ceramic containers. They come in three sizes and instructions on how to care for them.
A most intriguing stall was Empire Carnivorous Plants. Owner Stuart explained that they are a native of the east coast of the USA and eat European wasps, flies, moths and other flying insects.
Art and craft markets are ideal places to buy a gift for someone who has everything. How about a unique tealight featuring their favourite tipple? They are candles with the base of the liquor bottle removed and sitting over the tealight.
A most unusual enterprise was Cully’s Gully, featuring handmade and unusual guitars. I can’t vouch for their sound ability, but they look good and would be a good gift for a muso.
Another unusual product was Sarah’s Ruler Growth Charts, which are two-metre-high rulers to chart children’s growth. Much better than pencil marks on the walls.
A unique use for colourful tea cups and teapots are those that are made into garden ornaments. Perhaps ideal for a garden party.
All the above items could be described as novelty rather than practical items and that makes them ideal gifts for anyone who thinks they have everything.
