A hidden gem in Surrey Hills
Named after Union Road in eastern suburb Surrey Hills, Union Tree Thai is located on a beautiful tree lined road and is a stone's throw from Surrey Hills station. This Thai restaurant offers tasty, original and fresh Thai cuisine. It is a café by day and has a relaxed and cosy atmosphere. The space is quite small but doesn't feel squishy.
We ate dinner there on a Friday night. The service was excellent and prompt. They had traditional Thai style cutlery on the table which was a nice touch. For starters we shared the Prawn Spring Rolls which were crispy and hot followed by the Beef Massaman curry and the Chilli Mayo Tofu with coconut rice. The curry featured tender pieces of beef, cashew nuts, coconut milk, tamarind and potato. It was a hearty dish and had the right balance of spice and sweetness. The tofu was a tasty and flavourful side dish and was very nicely presented. The two diners next to us could not take their eyes off our tofu dish. I did not have room for dessert but will definitely be back to try more dishes from their extensive menu.
