From the first note of the harmonica, to her final, stretching note to finish, Katie Weston captivates her audience in a dedication to one of the greatest voices of the '90s. With a likeness of voice, grit, and energy to match the one and only Alanis herself, Katie Weston and her band have truly brought the greatest of Alanis Morissette to life in this nationwide tour.

Jagged Little Pill

Focusing on the powerhouse debut album, Jagged Little Pill, where many of us found Alanis Morrisette songs, favourites such as 'Ironic', 'You Oughta Know', 'Head Over Feet, 'You Learn' – and many more. The show starts with a bang, with my personal favourite – 'All I Really Want' – with Katie taking to the harmonica before powerful vocals with an almost identical likeness to Alanis Morrisette. If you close your eyes (you won't want to – the energy on stage will keep you too entertained) – I'm guessing you wouldn't be able to tell Katie and Alanis apart.

The night goes on with a shifting view of her later albums, including songs such as 'Joining You', 'Thank U', and of course, 'Uninvited', the Grammy award-winning single that this spectacular show is named after. Katie and the six-piece band command the stage through every song, whether it's the edgy rock songs, or even an acapella version of hidden tracks, the versatility and talent is undeniable, and gives the songs the personalised touch, whilst still keeping the familiarity we all love.

Throughout the night, Katie likens the songs she sings to memories of her past, formative memories of her teen years and all the way through. She captures so beautifully what a lot of these songs meant to us when we were younger and have grown up together. I don't lie when I say this is truly more than just a show, but a journey through the music and life that Alanis Morissette gave to all of us.

A single sentence Katie says stands out to me during the show;"Alanis took these simple ideas and melodies and turned them into something powerful."

If I could sum up the show myself in a sentence, it would be this alone. A simple idea, a show of Alanis Morissette's best songs, turned into something so powerful. More than that, it was enjoyable and fun and freeing as the songs make you feel, to the way they're performed to make you want to sing these songs as if you were alone in the car. Alanis and her songs are powerful, and so is this show.

So, Who Is Katie Weston?

Katie Weston is a Melbourne-based singer and musician who has performed across the country and nationally as a renowned vocalist. She is also a two-time award-winning lead Actress for the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria. Katie has been cooking the idea of this show for 2 years, first performing it in 2019, and now bringing it to audiences around the country for everyone to enjoy.

The show itself is musically directed by Jonathon Skovron, who always serves as guitarist and backing vocals, too. Katie is also accompanied by Paul Haymes on drums, Ben Cripss on bass guitar, Kathleen Holloran on guitar, Alex Burkoy on guitar and violin, and Mezz Coleman on keyboard and backing vocals. Each musician made a statement on the night, showing the musical power of the songs and talent of everyone on stage.

Whatever Alanis and these songs meant to you, whether you grew up on the Jagged Little Pill album, or you've only come to fall in love with her music now, this night will be sure to engage and entertain you. Leaving the night on such a high, I would recommend this show to anyone with a love of music, entertainment, 90's rock, and girl power.
