I love trying new food and new restaurants. My other passions are Origami and Pokémon

Much as its name suggests, Uni Sushi at Mawson Lakes is located close to the UniSA campus and serves sushi and Japanese cuisine. It is one of our favourite sushi places because it is located close to where we live and offers fresh and tasty sushi at a reasonable price. Their sushi are freshly made every day and any sushi left after 5pm are cleared at $2 each.

For a fairly small store, Uni Sushi serves a good range of sushi that consists of both ones that are sold at small sushi outlets and more unique varieties such as Lobster Salad and Octopus Salad. The varieties of sushi that we have enjoyed from Uni Sushi include Spicy Salmon, Egg Omelette, Teriyaki Chicken, Crispy Chicken, Crispy Prawn, Spicy Tuna, Crispy Kingfish, Inari, Lobster Salad, Korean Beef, Egg Salad, Tuna and Octopus Salad. All the sushi that we had were well done and delicious. Their sushi are so fresh that they are still good the next day if you store the sushi in an airtight container in the fridge. They also provide soy sauce that can be squeezed over the sushi to give it a bit more flavour. Spicy Salmon is my sister's favourite sushi from Uni Sushi.

Apart from sushi, Uni Sushi also offers some hot dishes. My favourite hot dish from there is Katsudon, which is a bowl of rice topped with a deep-fried pork or chicken cutlet, egg, onion and shredded nori. The pork and chicken cutlet were fried to golden brown with just the right amount of flavour with the egg topping complementing the meat nicely. The flavour of the egg was enhanced by the onion that was mixed through it and the dashi (cooking wine) and mirin (rice wine) sauce that the dish was served in tied everything together nicely. My mother prefers the Pork Katsudon because she finds it tastier.

Another hot dish offered by Uni Sushi is Teriyaki Chicken and while the meat is a bit tougher compared to the Katsudon, it was still cooked to perfection with the teriyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise completing the dish. This is my father's favourite hot dish from Uni Sushi.

Other hot dishes available from Uni Sushi include Udon, Bibimbab, dumplings and Bentos. Ambience of the café was very good with seating for about twenty people. We usually choose to order the food to takeaway due to it being more convenient for us, as do most customers. There is a good amount of parking space in front of the café.
