Naan bread is flat, leavened bread originating from the northwest of India, but you do not have to travel quite so far to find it. In Melbourne there are many restaurants that offer this bread, unsurprisingly most of them Indian, but where I choose to venture for tasty naan bread is not your usual Saturday night dinner destination.

In fact, the best time to go here is during the middle of the day, Monday to Friday. For me, the best naan bread in Melbourne is to be found at Uni Curry …"it's Currific".

Uni Curry is situated at the University of Melbourne in Parkville. I happened to stumble upon this hidden bread haven when I was attending the university in 2002.

Having to manage a student budget meant that many meals in those days came in the form of two-minute noodles or slices of pizza (which incidentally, are also excellent on campus), but this quick and yummy snack provided me with both affordability and filler food.

For only $2.50 I could (and still can) purchase a generous piece of plain naan bread and for an extra 0.50 cents the garlic naan bread. The garlic pieces pack a lot of flavour, so it depends on what taste you are after.

It may seem like an out of the way destination if you not attending the university itself, but as the university grounds are a nice place to walk around and reflect, if you are wanting a good walk then the naan bread is definitely worth the hike.

Prices for other snacks and meals range from $4.00 to $9.00 and are good are complement to the naan bread, especially the plain. In my university days I was wary of new foods and didn't have an appetite for curries, but now I love them and would recommend picking one up if your wallet allows and if you are after more than a quick snack.

The best part about picking up a piece of naan bread while I was a student was that it was quick and easy to eat while on the way to class. Even with the garlic bread, a piece of chewing gum and a sweet beverage to wash it down usually took care of lingering garlic breath.

Even though I am no longer at the university I still miss the occasional pieces of naan bread. So, if the weather is nice I will wander over if the craving pops up and it is still just as delicious.
