See Exciting Art Painted by the Homeless of Perth
Artwork, wine & Cheese. What a great combination and you can do and see all three of these at the uneARThed Wine and Cheese Night.
The theme of the art show is a topical one of "homelessness", and this in itself is unusual, so will be well worth going to see.
UneARThed is a local non-profit company with an interest in those unfortunate enough to be homeless; can you imagine - having no home to go to and no regular bed to sleep in?
Homelessness has become a huge problem here in Perth with the numbers of homeless people rising dramatically in the last few years, so it is good that we have organisations such as uneARThed to help raise funds for these people.
Over the past few years, 30 homeless people have died on the street, in refuges and in aged care facilities, as sometimes "bad things happen to good people", and often the reason people are homeless is a lot of bad luck.
The plight of the homeless affects all ages and denominations and I cannot even imagine what it would be like not to have a bed and a roof over my head every night, particularly in this cold weather.
There are several places that cater for homeless people, however, there are not enough services to keep all the people living on the streets safe from cold, harm and hunger.
Enough of that however, as here we all have a chance to help these people we do not know. Come to this event and see the artwork of the homeless!
It promises to be different and interesting and you may just find a piece of artwork that just "belongs" on your wall!
During the evening, you will get some "wine and nibbles" and you can wander around and enjoy the art, and at the same time, you will have the opportunity to talk to some of the actual artists.
The organisation works closely with these artists and helps them to promote their work and they also work on removing the stigma of being homeless.
They even have an art rental service which is a great idea as you need not have the same paintings hanging in your house or office forever!
They believe that by "empowering through expression, they can break the stigma of homelessness".
