A word that doesn't immediately spring to mind when one thinks of the fashion industry is 'sustainability'. After all it seems like we are constantly being told up upgrade our wardrobe, throw away the old and 'reinvest' in this season's hottest looks.
The people behind Undress Brisbane are concerned about the environmental and social sustainability of such an approach. In fact Undress Brisbane is a fashion and design event that is all about sustainability. The idea is to give new life to pre-loved garments while thinking critically about the behaviour of everyone's favourite brands and labels and our own patterns of consumption.
On 15 October 2011 the first annual Undress Brisbane sustainable fashion event will be held on the rooftop of the Wilson CarPark on the Valley. Local and emerging designers have loaned furniture and other items to create an ambiance space and (of course) there will be a rooftop bar with food and drinks available. There will be runway shows by fashion students with an interest in sustainability, by vintage designers and by established fashion designers. Entry is free (although booking is essential) and you can enjoy the warm fuzzies of being part of an atmosphere of change, while you sit back sipping your champagne.
