UnderWater World - Seal Swims and Seal Kisses

Here I am receiving a big, fishy seal kiss at Underwater World. Picture care of Experience Oz

If you have a fascination with Seals, then Underwater World is a place you must go. Here, you are offered the chance to not only have a photo taken with a beautiful seal planting a fishy kiss on your cheek, but you can even go for a dip with the seals yourself.

My fascination with these gorgeous creatures began after viewing the movie Andre' when I was a little girl. If you have seen the movie, you will join with me in saying how unfair it was that my parents were never cool enough to let me have a pet seal of my own and so, I was forced to just have a kiss and a swim with seals at Under Water World instead.

The photo is a priceless keepsake that you can show your children in years to come whilst stating "See, I DID smooch a seal." The seals are literally fed fish as they are kissing you, so if you're a pregnant or just plain old squeamish at the smell of fish then this one may not be for you!

My partner Jamie and I make friends with this slippery seal during the seal swim. Even the seal is posing! Picture care of Experience Oz

The photo is one thing, but the seal swim in another. After booking in for a seal swim, you are taken down into an area where all the seals food is kept and prepared. The seal keepers explain to you who all the seals are at Underwater World, how old they are, how much they weigh and therefore how much they eat. After removing all your jewellery and getting changed into swimwear, you are lead out into the enclosure and encouraged to slip into the icy cold water. The water is pumped straight from the ocean to the enclosure and is extremely buoyant, making it very hard to dive down. The seals swim around you and aren't phased to have you in their environment, so long as you obey the rules. The keepers give you toys and pieces of hose which the seals enjoy to play with.

I was a little disappointed with the seal swim, only because I really wanted to cuddle one and it's not surprise that you actually aren't allowed to do that. Overall it was an enjoyable experience that I would recommend to any seal fans out there. Below is a video of my Underwater World Seal Experience.

Underwater World charges $10 for a "Seal kiss," with the photo of your smooching moment costing an additional charge. The "Seal Swim" comes in at $90 per person, also with a photo available for an additional charge. I honestly think these prices are reasonable and worth spending for an experience you won't get at any trip to your local beach. You can find out more information and book following the links above.
