Every weekend, there seems to be a market on in Canberra, whether it be the old bus depot markets, the handmade markets or even the farmers market! There just seems to be something special about being able to talk to the person who grew or made the products that they are selling. I've also found that they are the perfect place to get those one of the kind unique presents.
With Christmas just around the corner, it's perfect timing that the National Portrait Gallery is having the Undercurrent Design Markets again. The market is in its 9th year and it's the brainchild of Richard Baz and wife Mel O'Hanlon, who run the Curatoreum stores at the National Portrait Gallery and National Arboretum. So you can be assured that the designers selected will be amazing!
This year, they will have over 50 design makers from across Australia. Some of the designers attending include Joanna Preston, a shoemaker, Trevor Dickinson, the Canberra bus shelter designer, Geoff McCann, a jewellery maker and Marcelle, who makes gorgeous, handcrafted vessels and pots. With an amazing amount of designers attending, it is the perfect opportunity to get a start on the Christmas shopping!
