Under the Gateway

It has been a long time since I have been down under the Gateway Bridges, on the Brisbane River, but I ventured there recently. There's some building going on, but the park under the bridge is still easily accessible.
There's a great walk along the pathway to Queenstown Rocks Park, and it's a rather interesting experience to look up and see that you are right under the bridge with the traffic rushing across.
Some folk fish under the bridge, some ride their bikes along the pathway, and others just explore or watch the activity on the river. There are usually not a lot of people there.
Did you know about the aquarium?
I knew the waterway near Gibson Island was referred to as the Aquarium Passage, and there is an Aquarium Street off the Lytton Road, but I didn't know the story of the aquarium itself, which goes way back to the 1880s. There's some very interesting history recorded there.
It's easy to get to from the corner of Creek Road and Lytton Road, with a pleasant walkway along the river's edge.
It's another free and fun place to explore and watch the activities on the Brisbane River!
Take a rug or fold-up chairs and enjoy. (There's a jetty there, but it needs some work and is currently off-limits).
Though we often refer to the bridges as "The Gateway Bridge/s" they are officially the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges.
