Their motto 'hospitality from the heart' shines through at Una's in Darlinghurst. Always full of people, Una's offers a warm and inviting spot to dine in an otherwise busy part of town.

The German/European influenced restaurant boasts delicious schnitzels and pork knuckle, as well as the less traditional salmon fillet. The menu also includes a thing called a rosti, which turns out to be grated potato roasted into a sort of hash brown. You can make an entrée, a main, by adding one of these. For starters, I recommend the deep fried camembert cheese, served with cranberry sauce, it is literally to die for.

The German's seem to have a love for cabbage as they give you a bowl of cabbage 'salad' for starters and serve sauerkraut with most dishes. Once you've had the deep friend camembert though you can justify it by balancing it out with some cabbage.

The waiters are friendly and authentic, so you may have to ask them to slow down or repeat the question, but that's half the fun. If you're lucky you might see the waiter who dons suede shorts and braces. The service is fast, which is good because when you set eyes on the meals at a table close by you'll soon be drooling in anticipation.

The interior is cosy and traditionally decorated with wooden floors and walls and Toby jugs hanging from hooks. At the moment they even have a competition running where you can win a bicycle by drinking Grolsch beer, which is just another excuse to visit really.

If you can fit in dessert you'll be tempted by pancakes, cakes and tarts though I haven't yet been able to fit one in. Maybe next time I will start with dessert and work my way back.

Una's is like a trip overseas without the debt so treat yourself to a little culture and head on over.
