Where is Ubud's Best Restaurant

There are so many amazing restaurants in Bali and especially in Ubud - from simple street "warungs" to outright gourmet extravagance, there really is something to satisfy all taste buds and budgets in this village in the rice paddies. Here are some of my favorite "must visit" restaurants, but I invite you to please add to the inexhaustive list.

Sakti Dining Room, Five Elements Resort:

Perched on the edge of the Ayung River, the location is a stand out here. Some people visit for the architecture - an incredible bamboo structure with traditional alang alang thatched roofing. Most people visit Sakti Dining Room, Five Elements for the unique raw food experience.



I can only say, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious raw food can be. It is perfectly suited to the tropical environment and is super fresh and full of healing vitality. This place is worth a visit for any special occasion as it is quite expensive (by Balinese standards anyway).

Murni's Warung:

Another perfect location, with dining terraces right on the edge of Campuhan Gorge, and the soothing sound of the water falling only 10 meters down below. Open since 1974, Murni's Warung is a well established Ubud restaurant and they know how to cater to Westerners, with traditional Balinese food presented ever so stylishly.



Sari Organik:

The only way to reach Sari Organik "Experimentation Station in farming and food processing" is to walk along a narrow rice paddy track, but this is all part of the romance of this very popular open air restaurant.

They grow most of their own produce and you can even visit your lettuce before you eat it here, which is great fun for kids (and interested adults, I guess). Chickens run around the lush gardens and we had fun patting the resident cows after lunch. The menu includes plenty of salads and juices - I highly recommend the Padi Sunset (rosella, mint and lime). They make their own feta and tofu, which also feature on the menu.


There are many more fantastic restaurants in Ubud, but you'll have to try for yourself. Or maybe just tell us, where is Ubud's best restaurant?
