Enjoy the great outdoors for free
Springtime is one of the best time of the year to venture out and enjoy the beautiful Queensland weather. We are blessed in and around the Brisbane area with many great parks and the best thing is that they are all free.

Last weekend our family had a lovely Sunday afternoon at Tygum Park. Tygum Park is located on the south side of the city, down in the Logan area in Waterford West.

Tygum Park has a number of playgrounds including swings, rope climbing towers and a great pirate ship for the kids to enjoy and explore.

The large grassy area is surrounded by walkways, which are great for walking or for bike riding.

There are lots of level concrete walkways in and around the picnic tables and playgrounds. It also extends right around the lagoon. The walkways are good for wheelchairs or the elderly.

The walk around the lagoon is about 1.3km long and has a number of fitness stations positioned along the track.

The lagoon also is a great place for wildlife including ducks and turtles and has several pontoons that are great for throwing a line in for fishing.

The quality of the water is not suited for swimming and swimming is not allowed.

With the lagoon and surrounding large trees, it also makes a good place for birdwatching.

If all this activity is making you hungry, then stop and lay out a picnic rug or set yourself up at one of the many shaded picnic tables scattered around the park. There is also a number of electric BBQs as well, to cook those sausages or prawns.

The park is great for the young and old, for the dogs (on leashes), for those wanting to be active or those that want to relax and soak up the waterviews.

The children are well catered for, with the playgrounds, swings, half a basket ball court and a skate area.

The toilets are relatively clean and well maintained with a disability toilet.

Ample parking that is close enough to carry those picnic baskets and goodies.

So why don't you venture out this weekend and explore what is in your own backyard! What more do you need in life - fresh air, good company, outdoor activities and a chance to relax whilst the children are entertaining themselves in the playgrounds.
