I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.
Located at Nana Glen in the Orara Valley, 25km from Coffs Harbour Two Tails Winery is a pleasant place to visit when in the area. They offer tastings of their range of white, red and fortified wines which are produced from their grapes by Bago Winery, Port Macquarie. The cellar door staff are very welcoming and love to share their knowledge in a friendly, non-condescending way. Some of the grape varieties such as villard blanc and jacquez may be unfamiliar but the result is unique interesting wines. Group tastings and bus groups are by appointment. Local products such as Glenreagh honey and condiments from Westlime are available at the cellar door.
The onsite restaurant Velvets offers delicious share dishes made from local seasonal produce. It is open for lunch from 11:30am on Wednesday to Sunday and for dinner from 5:30pm on Friday and Saturday. Bookings are recommended as it is proving very popular with people from the coast. Seating is provided on a large deck overlooking the vineyard or inside the cellar door.
There are daily specials highlighting the fresh seasonal produce such as stuffed pumpkin flowers and the dishes are generous in flavour as well as size. The stuffed mushroom entree for $20 that we had was bursting with freshness, colour and taste.
The bread and sopressa dish for $25 could have been shared by four diners as an entree. The salami, figs, mushrooms, tomatoes, salad, aioli and bread complemented each other and were washed down with a glass of crisp villard blanc. Velvets also provides catering for functions and special events.
Two Tails Winery operates a self contained B&B that accommodates a couple or a family of four. A breakfast hamper is included and a BBQ dinner pack can be organised with 24hr notice. Ring the winery on (02) 66 543 633 for rates and availability. Take a drive out to Two Tails Winery next time you are in the Coffs Coast you won't regret it.
