Ah traffic ... an inconvenient consequence of our urban lives. Located in Swann Street, Gordon Park (just beside Gympie Road and the Northern Busway), the Two Streets Over café provides just the place when you need to stop and get some caffeine relief when traffic becomes too much to bear. I admit I found myself in this very situation on a chilly, Thursday morning. What I discovered was that the Two Streets Over café opened on January 27th 2017, just 5km from the CBD, by a self-described "bunch of true caffeine addicts".
After a little bit of research, I found that the shop was on the site of the former Union Bank building. Today, the owners have retained the wooden exterior of the building and added a fresh coat of white paint to give it a clean look and feel. Black industrial styled accessories finish off the styling. The café is quaint and has indoor and outdoor seating areas.
I was led to the deck area at the side of the shop by my pup to catch some rays and we passed by some the bench-seating under the shop's awning. I noticed that a small vertical wall garden filled with herbs sits on the wall.
Pup also sniffed out the two wall clips which are fixed at the entrance to park your dog while you make your order or sit inside. Very dog-friendly. The café has one of the best access paths for wheelchairs and prams that I've seen. Being full length and with a hand railing made it safe and convenient. The café is a neighbour to a child care centre next door.
Despite being beside the Northern busway, street noise wasn't an issue at all.
What's on the Menu? Two Streets Over offers an all day breakfast with favourites including eggs benedict, an assortment of toasties, and bruschetta. A cold cabinet with muffins and sweeter treats go well with something to drink. Charlie's drinks and Nutella hot chocolate alongside the coffee are stand out beverages. Homemade dog treats (biscuit shaped as a bone) are available for 4 legged visitors.
