I was avoiding the recent, "sweet bacon" rage in cafes like a bad rash, until I saw Hot Jam Doughcakes on the menu at Two Little Pigs.
There was the trepidant moment where I discovered it was served with caramelised bacon ice cream, but I figured I could always leave the ice cream on the plate if I felt like things were getting a bit too meaty.
The Doughcakes themselves are the love child of perfect pancakes and hot jam doughnuts at the Market.
Surprisingly enough, the ice cream turned out to be perfect as both a flavour and textural accompaniment.
After the Doughcakes, breakfast was a sharing affair. The Two Little Pigs breakfast platter gave a bountiful offering of thick cut bacon and house made sausage with lavish trimmings that included duck fat mushrooms and apple chutney.
One might worry that all this deliciousness may lead to a dropping of the baton somewhere. But the attention in the food department hasn't shortchanged the coffee at all, which is a quaffable offering that may require more than one.
Sounds wonderful - especially the jam doughcakes.
