Self described 'chanteuse clown' Sharnema Nougar and comedy writer David Tieck come together for an unforgettable night of comedy in their show Kapow! , currently playing as part of MICF 2022 . Although as it happens they regularly come together off stage as well, so to speak, as they are also partners in life.

Reading the overview of this show before seeing it, I said to my partner that it sounded a bit like the sort of show he and I would write together, if in fact we were comedy writers. And, I mean this in a very positive way, that was pretty much how it came across. The sketches give some insight into what their lives might be like. There were shower scenes, music and frolicking, a lot of good humour, and a lot of silliness. There was also strong empathy between the two performers, and the ability to freely touch one another without concerns about repercussions. Oh, and multiple references to cats.

How would I cat-egorise their show? Without meaning to sound catty, I would describe it as a shared stream of consciousness s-cat-tered with moments of feline worship. But seriously, there is a bit of cat adoration thrown in there, as the four cats owned by the pair are clearly a big part of their life. And the tension is built throughout the show as to whether we, the audience, will get to meet their precious moggies.

There was gentle audience interaction throughout, with the occasional targeted comment to individual audience members. The show rounded out with a sing-along which left us all with silly smiles on our faces.

I'd summarise Kapow! as a two-person revue with a strong dash of silly, a sprinkling of magic, and a small slice of chaos. It had me laughing throughout. It wasn't particularly sophisticated or refined humour, but it didn't need to be; it was Nougar and Tieck's story, told in their own amusing way.

The connecting energy between the two was the icing on the cake.
