Amongst all the runs and walks that have sprung up over the years on behalf of the various charity organisations, here is one that may speak to your heart. Every week in Australia four lives are lost due to congenital heart disease. In addition, eight babies are born every day with congenital heart disease. HeartKids needs your help to fund vital support services for these families all across Australia.
Congenital heart disease is one of the leading causes of death of Australian babies. There is no known cure and those living with congenital heart disease face unique challenges for their entire life.
To support this organisation, you can participate in their Two Feet & A Heartbeat charity walk which will take place in 25 locations across Australia on September 9, 2018. You can either do the 4km walk or if you feel extra motivated, why not do it twice in the 8km walk. You can check out the locations to see which is closest to you.
Participants walk side by side with HeartKids families and every walker carries a coloured flag: Blue is carried by those living with congenital heart disease Red by those walking in support White by those walking in memory of a Heart Angel (deceased loved one).
You can also buy T-shirts, caps and other merchandise to further support HeartKids
All funds raised go towards supporting families affected by congenital heart disease as well as funding life-changing medical research for which money is always needed. All participants receive their own fundraising page upon registering and can share this with family and friends to ask for financial and moral support.
The event starts at 9 am with registrations and will conclude by 1 pm. As well as the walk (which finishes around 11 am) there will also be entertainment and social activities, such as a BBQ, coffee vans, snow cones, balloon maker, jumping castles … and much more!
