Located in Tanawha on the Sunshine Coast, the magnificent 82 hectare Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden is a haven for local plants and animals and is the location for you to head to, to celebrate Botanic Gardens Week in May this year. Botanic Gardens Week is celebrated every year throughout Australia in late May and is a week-long event that focuses on the importance of plants and the work of botanic gardens and arboretums in conserving them.
2025’s theme for Botanic Gardens Week is
'Guardians of the Green. Protecting our Future’, which will concentrate on positioning botanic gardens as ‘zoos for plants’ and emphasising their role in conserving rare and threatened species. Participating Botanic Gardens will showcase their
‘Big 5 Plants’ - a selection of species that tell powerful stories about plant conservation.
