How does that song by the Bee Gees go? It's Only Words
Everyone has a story. I like to think that these cooler, shorter days coupled with a lack of anything of any consequence on the television make for ideal conditions to share a story.
The Twisted Stringybark Short Story Award 2022, where every story must have a twist, is open for entries until the 14th of August, 2022. This means plenty of time to stock up on coffee beans and healthy snacks and to write a short fiction story of 1,500 words or less, "on any theme but which must have a link (no matter how small or inconsequential) to Australia" as well as that all-important twist.
Competition guidelines state: " Some reference to Australia is required. We don't care how small the reference is. It could be a mention of a Vegemite sandwich or the fact that Australia is the world's biggest exporter of coal. The story could be set in Australia or have an Australian in it."
This competition is open to Australian and International authors of all skill levels. All judging is done blind, which means that it's the writing that will be judged and not the writer's reputation. Making it easy, all entries are entered online.
Stringybark Stories have been sponsoring writing competitions since 2010 and as a result, over forty short story anthologies containing winning and highly commended entries have been published. Copies of many of these anthologies, including Fruitcake Frenzy, are available in both digital and paper format from the website.
